What can’t T.L Smith write? This is a story of two people that want to love each other but there is no way for them too.
It starts out with them seeing each other after years of hurt, pain, and selfishness has become the norm for them. Then T.L brings us to the past.
Sass (Barbie) is a poorer child that is at a rich school on a scholarship. She goes to school with her cousin (rich snob kind of girl) Livia and a couple friends. Sass isn’t big on boys or parties. She wants out of the town they are living in and school is the answer.
Ryken is in school until he can take over for his father. Daddy owns all the strip clubs in town and is the man of the underground (although it is the unknown secret in town). Nobody messes with Ryken’s family or people start coming up missing. But when he starts paying attention to Barbie he knows he is asking for trouble.
Sass and Ryken are a couple that can never be but is destined to hurt each other always. Ryken and Livia are the couple to go forward and hurt everyone else and still fall into bed together with no remorse.
This is the first book of the duet. I am at a loss at how to characterize what I felt when I finished this book. Ryken is such a sh*t for what he does to Sass at the end. And who knows what Livia is up to now. Sass finally has a backbone and is now being sent away, but who knows if she will break again. Love is not always enough. We will see if it is in the next book! I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy for my honest review.
