She moved forward, coming to a stop as she finally managed to make out the features of the person on the other side. Jake.

Her stomach danced happily as she opened the door. “Hey, sheriff. You sure you’re not following me?”

He pulled off his hat, holding it in front of him. “Molly, what are you doing here?”

“I could ask you the same thing.”

“I saw the light was on and I knew Laken should have been closed up by now. Thought I’d just check that everything was all right.”

She sighed. “You caught me red-handed stealing.” She held out the yellow skirt. “I suppose you better arrest me and haul me away to jail.”

“You want to be arrested?”

“I have a thing for authority figures,” she whispered with a wink, leaning into him. She leaned a bit too far, though and her sprained ankle gave way, sending her toppling into him.

He grabbed hold of her, holding them both steady.

“Whoops! Sorry, Sheriff. Didn’t mean to fall head over heels for you.”

His eyebrows drew closer together. “Molly, have you been drinking?”

“Just a couple.”

“You smell like booze.”

“I do not!” she protested before she remembered the wine she’d spilled on herself. “Oh, I suppose I do.”

“I hope you’re not planning on driving anywhere,” he said sternly.

“Of course not.” She sighed with exasperation. “Sheriff, are you always so serious?”

REVIEW⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I did not know when I started this book that there were 3 previous books to this series. Thank goodness they are all more or less standalone. There are characters from previous books and mentions of those stories but it doesn’t take away from this book.

Molly ends up in Haven to take care of her bucket list. She is determined that when her life ends it will be on her terms. But she never thought she would ever meet someone like Jake. All she wants is to find some fun at the local BDSM club and take some much needed time with friends.

Jake is the local sheriff. He is still trying to get over a tragedy from his past. He has not had anyone in his life for 2 years or so. But when he meets Molly he decides to get involved with the scene again and interduce her into the life.

I really enjoyed this story and the characters. I will be going back to read the other stories to this series.

Laylah Roberts grew up in rural New Zealand. She worked her way through several libraries, devouring romance books. She finally worked up the courage to write her own story and she’s never looked back. She loves dominant, Alpha men who meet their match in her strong heroines. When she’s not writing, she’s busy running after her young daughter and trying to tame her never-ending pile of laundry.

BLURB

Perfection isn’t always so perfect.

All I’ve done since I was seventeen is try to prove my father wrong.
Try to prove I am better than him and his perfect lineage. His perfect name.
Anyone who has gotten in my way of attaining that goal I consider collateral damage.
Now my life has spiraled so far out of my control, I’m free falling, and for whatever reason Jess and Jace feel like a safe haven.
They’re not. They’re two blips from my past. And that’s where I should have left them.
We come from different worlds.
Whatever we have can only exist in this moment.
They’re just two dirty mechanics.
And I’ve spent my whole life avoiding getting dirty.

Man, I loved this story. I have never read Aubrey Cara before and I didn’t read the blurb either, to be honest. I read this story because it is part of the Hard N’ Dirty series. So I just drove right in and I am so happy I did. I got some great freaking characters and a wonderful story.

The brothers were amazing and Madeline is a headcase. But Jace and Jess bring out the best in Madeline and she needs them so badly but refuses to accept it. That is what makes this story so wonderful. The push and pull between them all. This is a must read book and a great start to this standalone series.

Alta brought a great story to life. I enjoyed Mateo and Julep’s love story. It was intense, brought tears to my eyes, and made me want to throw my kindle across the room.

Julep is trying to get her fathers gym back up to what it was in the glory days. Shamrocks is in need of a great fighter. Her friend tells her about a fighter that is not fighting anymore due to throwing a fight and having issues with gambling. He has cleaned up his act and is looking to getting back in the game.

Mateo had his reasons for doing what he did. But he doesn’t need to explain himself to anyone- or so he feels. But when Julep shows up at his house and offers him a second chance at his dream, he just might have to come out with the truth.

These two may start out as a working relationship, but you can feel the heat right away. It doesn’t take long for them to see that there is more to their relationship than just working.
I greatly enjoyed this story about sacrifice and love.

Cat Milnick’s Summer To-Do List

1. Get my new brewpub up and running.
2. Ignore the wickedly handsome Dom Wilde and his kinky furniture.
3. No more carpenter puns. Screw and hammer. Tongue and groove. Nail gun.
4. Focus on the beer.
5. Remember: If I fail, I’ll have to go back to working for my evil ex-boyfriend.
6. Don’t get turned on when Dom calls me his little spitfire in his sexy, smoky growl.

And above all, don’t get too attached to his…ahem…‘hard wood.’

REVIEW⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I love Tara Crescent and was so excited to read this story in the Hard N’ Dirty series and it really did not disappoint. The characters are very interesting and the chemistry is off the hook. The only issue I had is that I felt like I was coming into a series because of the other characters. Like everyone had their own stories and I should already know their love stories.

But when it comes to this story it is pretty dang good. Cat has just moved to the same town as Dom to start a brewery. She is a tightly wound woman that knows this is all she has and needs it to work. But when she meets Dom she finds something else she really wants too.

Dom is a carpenter and is good with his hands. He made some items for Cat’s new restaurant and they become friends. But the chemistry is just too much for him to ignore. But Dom has a problem with commitment. So what will he do when he finds himself falling for this wonderful woman that has fallen into his lap?

Blaze is demanding. Unyielding. A punisher.

He thinks he can rid me of my demons by exacting even more of me than I ask myself.
He says he can wash my sins clean.
Absolve me of the fire that scalded my soul.
All I have to do is turn myself over to him.
Submit. Surrender.
The only problem–he doesn’t just want my body.
He wants my life.

Note: This steamy stand-alone romance contains a dominant, dirty talking fireman, a fiery new recruit and enough kink to start a three-alarm fire. If such material offends you, please do not read this book! No cliffhangers, no cheating.

Lia’s standing there in a pair of goddamn pink panties, her FDNY t-shirt knotted above her waist.

I gape for one room-spinning moment, then I step in and go to shut the door. Wait–fuck. I can’t be in a closed room with her–when she’s in her panties!

But I sure as hell can’t leave it open for other fire-fucks to see her this way, either.

Fuck it.

I kick it shut.

She’s laughing at me now, triumph over my dance with the door evident in her eyes.

“What in the sam-fuck are you wearing?” I boom, too loud.

Her full lips stretch into a shit-eating grin. She loves seeing my unfortunately full-bodied reaction to the sight of a mere triangle of soft pink fabric covering what must be the sweetest little pussy in the five boroughs. “I’m pretty sure you’re aware of what I’m wearing.”

“Th-those are not regulation,” I sputter. What I mean, is that they look like they’re made of a non-compliant material–like polyester or a rayon blend. If we run out on a fire tonight and she gets burned, they would fuse to her skin if they melted.

I force myself to look away. I can’t discuss it with her standing there like that. My self-control will frazzle. “Just–stop playing with fire. Put your pants on.”

“Why, Captain?” the little minx purrs, knowing she has me by the balls. She cocks a hip. “Am I making you…uncomfortable?”

My fingers twitch. “Put some goddamn pants on before I spank that cute little ass red!”

Oh shit. I clap a hand over my mouth, then attempt to hide the gesture by rubbing the stubble on my face. I definitely shouldn’t have said that. All this time I’ve been trying to protect her from harassment and I’m the first asshole to bring it.

    ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is the 4th book of the Hard N’ Dirty (all standalone) series. Blaze is a hot and dirty firefighter based story. In this one, we get Lia and Blaze the captain of their station.

Lia has a love/hate relationship with fire. She is known to have started a fire in her family home when she was a child. Now she is a firefighter and is more than willing to make up for what she has done. But sometimes what is done in the past can not be undone.

Blaze was there that night when that house was up in flames. He knows that Lia has a past with fire and that she might not have what it takes. But he also wants to bend her over his desk.

These two characters have a lot to work out between them. Neither wants to give in and both are very headstrong. But one place they can get along is in the bedroom. Blaze is a giver and is into kink. Lia is new to it and loves that Blaze wants to take care of her outside the station house. Can these two find a middle ground?

The environmental chick? Yeah, she’s hot.

I’d love to bend her over the hood of her stupid little electric car and smack that ass.
But the project comes first.
I don’t have time for dating, especially tree-huggers. I have to get this build completed on time.
But a kiss never hurt anyone… right?
She just better not be playing me to get info on my boss. Or shut down this project.
Because she’ll find out that I can give as good as I get.
That I have creative ways to punish her.
Get her begging for more…

This book is part of an amazing series of books about sexy blue-collar guys who don’t mind getting a little dirty. 😉 They are stand-alones and do not need to be read in order, but are all super sexy and delicious. From Alexis Alvarez (me!), Lee Savino, Renee Rose, Alta Hensley, Tara Crescent, Ava Sinclair, Aubrey Cara, Jane Henry.

The handsome man puts down his hammer, unwraps a flannel shirt from his waist, and wipes his face with it. Jesus, this guy is ripped! In his mid-thirties, I’d guess, his tanned skin is muscled like a fitness model, with a six-pack, strong biceps and triceps, narrow hips, and broad shoulders. His blue jeans ride low on his hips, and those boots… I do have a thing for guys in boots and worn jeans.
He tosses his shirt onto the pile of wood and strides toward me and my bestie, adjusting his hard hat.
“Talia. Incoming.”
“I can see that,” I hiss back, adjusting my skirt, wishing my heels weren’t so high. If I had sneakers on, I’d already be banging on that trailer.
“Ladies.” His voice is low and rich, but not welcoming. “This is a construction site. Private property. I need you to leave.”
I stick out my hand. “Hi. I’m Talia Carlsson and this is my colleague, Lem Hayes. We’re both volunteers from the—”
He doesn’t take my hand. “I don’t care where you’re from; you need to exit the premises. You’re not authorized, and you don’t have hard hats and boots. Let’s go.”
He gestures to the fence and gate. “I assumed the Employees Only sign might keep random people out. And the lock.” He narrows his eyes.
I cough. “It was left open.”
The man smiles, but it seems sort of predatory. “I suppose if I watched the security footage, I’d see exactly how you got in.”
“Maybe there’s no need to do that.” Lem pulls at my sleeve. “We can leave right now.”
“Not until we speak to Danton Carter.” I cross my arms.
The man stills. “What do you want with Danton Carter?”
“We’re from Earth First Environmentals.” I reach into my case and pull out a card. “My contact info.”
He takes the card and slides it into his front pocket without reading it, an easy move that makes my stomach flip, as I look at his lean hips. “Let me guess.” His voice is flat. “You’re with the group that keeps pestering us.”
“If you give us a chance to talk to him, I would appreciate it.” I make eye contact to show my sincerity. His eyes are a gorgeous cerulean blue. Holy mother of everything, who has eyes like that? And those lashes?
“Ladies, we need to walk.” His hand hovers just above my shoulder. “If you are injured on this site, it’s my ass.”
I try not to think about how much I’d like his ass, and how nice it looks in those jeans. I feel the warmth from his hand, and even though he doesn’t touch me, a little shiver of arousal sparks in my core.
“We’re not going near the work zone. We just wanted to find Danton.” I look back. “Or someone who knows where he is. Can you tell me where to find him?”
“The dangers are not limited to being hit in the head with an I-beam. You could trip over your own feet, fall and break your neck, and then sue.” He blows out a breath.
“Does that happen super often?” Lem’s voice is innocent.
“When people wear shoes like that, you better damn well believe it,” he says, a note of disgust in his tone, pointing at my heels.
“Ooh, no, these shoes are very comfortable,” I disagree, glancing down. “I walk quite well in them.”
Then I trip over an air molecule and fall right into the man.
Strong chest. Abs of steel. Arms that encircle me with strength. And his scent – not sweaty, like you’d assume, but sort of clean. Like soap, faint aftershave. Then a hint of deodorant and musk.
It’s over fast, then I’m back on my feet, breathing a little hard.
“Exactly,” he says, condescension dripping from his voice, “what I was talking about.” He rolls his eyes at me and Lem, but mostly at me. “Are you alright?” It’s like those last words were pulled from him.
“Yes.” I take a breath. “I only did that”—I sniff—“to make you feel good about yourself, like you get things right sometimes. It was intentional.” I stick up my chin and cross my arms. “You’re welcome.” I uncross my arms and adjust my hair, and his eyes follow the movement.
He scowls at me, hands on his hips, and slowly a smile works its way to his lips. “Is that so.”
“It’s exactly so.” My mouth twitches. “Because now that you’re softened up, you’re going to take us to see Danton Carter. Who’s one elusive… guy.” Sonofabitch, is what I wanted to say, but probably it’s not the best idea to insult a man’s boss in front of him.
“If he’s elusive to you, Ms.”—he pulls the card from his pocket and glances at it—“Carlsson, it’s for a reason. Have you considered that?”
“What’s your name again?”
He quirks a brow. “Again? Don’t recall I told it to you, yet.”
“You didn’t. That was my way of asking.”
“Kind of a roundabout way, don’t you think?”
“So what is it?”
He smiles at me. “You can call me Dane. Dane… Troy.”
“And this”—he gestures at the fence through which we recently came—“is called the exit. And this”—he raises his hand in a little Miss America wave—“is goodbye.”
“But wait.”
“Nice chatting, ladies.” He fixes us with a steely stare, and I gulp, stepping back through the opening with Lem. He clicks the lock shut and crosses his arms over that impressive chest. “You two have a fantastic day.”
When we don’t make a move to walk away, he raises one brow. “I’d sure hate to have to call security, which I will do in half a heartbeat if I see either of you two around here again in those.” He waves a hand at my heels, then turns to go.
“So I can come back if I wear my combat boots?” I call, and he snorts, turns back as if he can’t resist one more look.
“Please,” I implore. “It’s important. We have a miniscule window of opportunity here, and we only need a few minutes of his time. I’ve tried all the more traditional means—”
“You mean legitimate—”
“He’s not responding to emails, phone calls, texts, tweets.”
“If he’s not responding, it means the answer to whatever you want is probably already a no. Thank him for saving you some time,” he says drily. “Bye.

REVIEW⭐️⭐️⭐️
I usually enjoy Alexis Alvarez and her stories. But I didn’t particularly like this one. I liked the main two characters, Talia and Dane. But I didn’t really like the story or the secondary set of characters. I did finish the book because I wanted to find out how they got the bad guys, and of course, the book was yummy LOL.

Bottom line, I could not connect with the storyline and the secondary characters, but I did enjoy Talia and Dane when they were together.

I am a little iffy on if I would recommend this book but since it is part of this series I guess I would. They are all standalone so it would have to be up to the reader to read.

Alexis Alvarez writes romances – some are light-hearted contemporary romances; others delve into the exotic world of domination and submission.

Her female heroines are strong-willed women who are never push-overs, and who can hold their own in society and the workplace, but who are intrigued with the idea of kink and submission in the bedroom. Alexis writes with skill and poetry, creating worlds that are both dark and erotic and, at times, humorous and light.

Alexis is a writer, photographer, gourmet cook, former engineer, and mom. She likes other things besides BDSM fiction, and some of them include snorkeling, lemon bars, thunderstorms, and laughing so hard with her sisters and brother that her stomach hurts.

“Do you want me to fuck you?” His voice is deep and warm in my ear, a molten growl. “If you want it, you have to say so.”

I can smell the musk of my arousal on his hot breath. His chest is slick and hard against my back.

I can still walk away. There’s still time. He’s giving me an out. I can feel his strength, but also his restraint. I feel something else, too- the sharp stab of shame at how deliciously filthy it feels to have the spike of his cock pressing into my ass through his pants. The

fabric is all that separates me from the feel of him thrusting into my drenched pussy, from being claimed by a man I’ve only just a met, a man from a world so different than mine. I feel like a fawn in a tiger’s grip.

Do you want me to consume you? The tiger is asking.

“Yes,” I say. “Yes, please.”

I expect him to take me from behind. I hope he will. But he is going to make me face what I’m asking for, to face him. Cal rises from the bed, turning me around. His eyes command me to lie down. I obey, reveling in his dominance. I look down at my own body. There’s a smudge of grease on my side. The insides of my thighs are slick. The room smells like sex. I’m still wearing my pumps. Who knew daddy’s girl could be such a little slut. I almost climax again from the thought of the change that’s come over me.

Cal is beside the bed, those big hands slowly undoing the clasp of his belt. I’m mesmerized by those hands, by what they have already done. My ass aches slightly from their squeeze; my nipples tingle as if those calloused thumbs are still abrading them.

He pushes his pants and briefs down together. His cock, released from its confines, springs up in freedom amid a thicket of dark curls. It’s huge like the rest of him, the knobby head crowned with a drop of pre-cum, the length mapped with a network of thick raised veins. My lips part, as I imagine him holding my hair and shoving that beautiful cock in the back of my throat as I whimper in submission.

What is wrong with me? I’ve always given head as a perfunctory act, but I want to taste Cal like he tasted me, want to know if his flavor is as salty and earthy as I imagine it would be. I don’t get the chance, though. As soon as Cal steps out of his pants, he lowers himself over me, and I feel the power of his naked body against mine. I’m delicate next to him, my skin slick with sweat. The whine of the air conditioner is barely a hum, the hot air of the room pressing us together. The only illumination is a shaft of early evening light coming through the slit in the room’s blackout curtains.

Cal lowers his mouth to mine. The tongue that just delved between my nether lips now parts the lips of my mouth, fencing with mine as his hands roam my body.

“So beautiful,” he says. “You’re so damn beautiful. Spread those legs for me, baby.”

It’s the same commanding tone he used when he told me to get in the truck, the simple comment stirring something in me that I didn’t even know existed, something manifest now as I part my thighs, crying out with something deeper than fulfillment as he pushes himself into me. His girth stretches me to the point of pleasure pain. I whimper as my legs go around him, sinking my teeth into his shoulder as our sweat-slick bodies begin to move, sliding against one another. I close my eyes, imagining our bodies as some kind of carnal machine, his cock a drill, plumbing and plumbing my well of pleasure. The sound of his breath, his moan…it’s the sexiest thing I’ve ever heard. I hug his slim hips with my thighs, the heel of one shoe spurring his back, urging him to fuck me harder. He heeds my wordless request, his hips moving like a piston, his heavy balls slapping against my ass.

“Come for me. Come for me now!” His tone is intense, the dark eyes more so. I can’t breathe, can’t speak. I can only fall into the void opened by the quaking climax. The shockwave that starts as a quiver becomes a strong ripple that milks his cock. He tenses just before I feel the sensation of his hot seed washing into me. My legs squeeze in time with his spurts. I hear a cry and realize it’s mine, realize that whoever is in the next room must have heard.

I don’t care. I don’t care. I don’t care. When it’s over and I come back to my senses, I will. But for now, for the first time in my life, I feel free.

A standalone novel in the Hard n’ Dirty series

REVIEW
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

FINALLY!!! Finally, in this standalone series, we get our Daddy fun time. Haha. Jane brings her dirty mind to Jacked Up. Tanya is in big trouble if she doesn’t get her fathers car fixed. It isn’t just any kind of car, it is a historical kind of car that should never have been driven. So she goes to the one place she knows can do it and do it right.

Levi owns that place. But when Levi sets his eyes on Tanya he doesn’t want her money he wants her. And these two put each other through their steps. Levi might be her daddy, but Tanya is still new to it all and she will do what she wants when it comes to being out of the bedroom.

This book made me laugh, roll my eyes, and just really enjoyed it. Another great book by Jane!

I’m about to fuck up the rules of office etiquette so goddamned bad there will be no going back. But damn it, I mean what I say and every motherfucker who walks through the doors to this shop knows that. Even the damn customers.
Apparently, it’s time Tanya learned that.
And if I’m honest? I didn’t hire the girl for her secretarial skills.
I was maybe hoping she’d fuck up and give me a reason to punish her.
She stands in front of me now, a good head shorter than I am even with those death-defying fuck-me heels on. Her top’s tucked neatly into her skirt, and she stands erect, but there’s a smudge on her white top and a smear across the top of her nose. We’ll have a talk about appropriate office attire later. But first, we’ll talk about rules.
“Three rules,” I say, fixing her with a stern glare. “No backtalk. Nothing stupid and dangerous. And you do not enter the shop. Did you break any of my rules?”
She bites her lip and nods. “Well…yeah,” she says, looking away. I reach for her chin and bring her gaze to mine. Her lips part and her eyes are half lidded. She’s supposed to be chastened, but instead she looks like she’s ready for me to yank that skirt up and fuck her up against the desk.
I need to touch her. It breaks every rule there is about office protocol and shit, but who am I kidding? I didn’t hire her because I’m a fucking professional.
I want to touch her long, gorgeous, chestnut-colored hair. Instead of weaving my fingers through it and giving her the good, hard pull she needs, I tuck one stray lock behind her ear, barely touching her. We’re so close I can hear the steady tempo of her heartbeat. Her eyes widen when I tuck the hair, her lips parting. My dick tightens against my pants because I know exactly what needs to happen next.
“You fucked up, Princess,” I whisper in her ear. “Turn around, and bend over that desk.”
I expect a little tirade. Outrage. Huffing and puffing and indignation. But she closes her eyes briefly, as if to steel herself, and to my surprise, she doesn’t protest. When she opens her eyes they’re fixed on me and heated. She licks her lips.
She wants this as much as I do.
With torturously slow movements, she circles around and puts her back to me, then leans over so deliberately it’s slow motion, her belly hitting the desktop, fingers spread wide to hold herself in place. Her ass is on full display, voluptuous and full and in such fucking desperate need of a spanking.
I lean over, letting my flank press up against her back. “Your daddy ever spank you, Tanya?”
She shakes her head from side to side, her breath a husky whisper.
I place my hand on her lower back. The guys won’t be long on break, and this needs to happen.
“One thing you’ll learn, princess,” I say, resting my hand on the swell of her ass, which breaks every rule in the office handbook but I don’t give a shit, “is that this daddy won’t hesitate.”
She releases a strangled cry, and I haven’t even spanked her yet. She’s wet for me. I can tell by the way she trembles and breathes heavily she’s turned on. If I lifted her skirt and pulled away that little strip of fabric over her pussy, she’d coat my hand with her arousal. Tanya likes being dominated.
Fucking.
Noted.
Without another word, I raise my hand and slam it against the underside of her ass. She raises up on her toes and lets out a little yelp. Her knuckles whiten on the desk, but she stays there belly-down. Maybe she knows she can’t get away.
Maybe she wants more.
I lift my hand and slap my palm against her ass a second time, a third, and a fourth, each stinging swat landing in a different place. My palm tingles from where it connects with her ass, and my dick lengthens. “You stay the fuck out of that shop,” I growl, spanking her again, and again, “or the next time you do, I’ll bare your ass before I spank it.”
And I fucking will. The thought of spanking her bare ass makes my dick painfully hard, but I’m not fucking around here. Yeah, I want to fuck the princess heiress and hard, but I’m not screwing around when it come to safety.
“You’ll watch your tone of voice,” I say with another sharp spank. “And stay the fuck out of that shop. It’s dangerous in there.” I spank her three more times in rapid succession. “And the truth is, I’ll fucking kill someone if they so much as look at you.” She whimpers. I can feel the heat on her ass straight through that little skirt of hers. She’s had enough for now.
I mean every word I said but I think my point’s been made. I want to heave up this skirt and rake my hand up along her inner thighs, then finger her until she soars into her climax. I bet she’s damp with need and her skin feels like silk. I’d bet a goddamn mint she tastes sweet, too. I make it my aim to find out.
But not now. Not yet.
I right her skirt, and pull her to standing, then spin her around to look at me. Taking her by the chin, I bring her eyes to mine. “You hear me?”
Her wide, bright eyes blink up at me. Then she lashes flutter again, as if waking from a trance. She swallows. “Did you just spank me?” she whispers.
I huff out a laugh. “No, babe. I just gave you a motivational massage.” She blinks and stares, as if she doesn’t know what to do with herself. I hear the guys entering the shop behind me, tools being lifted and voices in the background. I gotta go.
“You just spanked me,” she repeats. It’s like she’s still trying to process what just happened.
I raise a brow to her. “Your point?”
“You shouldn’t do that,” she whispers.
I lean in and whisper in her ear. “You mean to tell me you didn’t like it?’
She swallows. “No, Levi,” she whispers back, her fingers gently grasping my shoulder. “Problem is, I liked it way too fucking much.”

REVIEW⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I have to say this book surprised me. I was a little apprehensive about this book, but I wanted to give it a try and I am so happy I did.

I loved this group of friends and Hunter. He is looking for a roommate since he has been cut off from his family because he is following his dreams. He is destined to become a firefighter and will do anything to do it. So when he meets Edie at the DMV he finds himself offering his home to her as a roommate.

Edie is hiding, and when she finds herself talking to Hunter she takes his offer and help. She is not looking for anything romantic, in fact, she wants NOTHING to do with romance. She wants a new life and maybe some friends.

Hunter finds he really enjoys Edie and her company. His friends like and respect her and it shows. But when her past comes back to hunt her will everyone stick by her? Or will they turn their back on her?

I went down to a 4 star due to how quick the ending ended. It was like bam. However, I did enjoy the story and will read the others.

Hunter

“Hunter, you’re fired.”
I look up from my bunk that I’ve just made with military precision after my last twenty-four-hour shift for the week. “Uh, sir?”
Chief Sullivan stands tall and irritated on the threshold of the room with his hands behind his back. “You have failed to show proof of a Class A license, so I have to fire you. I’ve been telling you for weeks to get this done by today. Time’s up.”
Shit. I was planning on taking care of that three days ago, but I was busy hiding the fact that I’m going to the academy to become a full-time firefighter from my family. “I was going to take care of that today, sir.”
His brows shoot up, and his expression is doubtful. “You have until five o’clock tonight. Have fun at the DMV on a Saturday, son. I don’t envy you.”
I don’t envy me either. “Thank you, sir. I’ll make sure you have it before five.”
“You do that, or you really will be fired.”
I’m a volunteer firefighter. Technically, he can’t fire me, but hopefully, that will soon change—being a full-time firefighter, not being fired.
He turns to leave and pauses on his way out. “Everything all right with your family?” he asks.
No, everything is not all right with my family. They’re pissed they spent thousands of dollars sending me to Westview University for four years only to watch me throw it all away to play hero, as they say. Chief knows my family is less than thrilled about my career choice, and he’s always been supportive.
“They still feel the same way. Nothing’s going to make them budge, though. I’m not going to worry about it.”
He grunts in agreement and leaves me alone. There’s not much else to say.
I hadn’t planned on spending the day at the DMV. I was going to take a run on the beach, work out, and place an ad for a roommate. Dad refuses to help with the rent now that I’m not going on to law school as planned.
As he planned, not me. I never wanted to go to college in the first place. I’ve wanted to be a firefighter since I was ten years old when I rescued a kitten from a burning garage five houses down from ours on Grand Avenue.
I saw smoke coming from the Grady’s garage and heard Cleo’s meows. Like an idiot, I went inside and crawled around on my hands and knees to find her. Mrs. Grady was a nice lady, and I knew how much she loved that cat. I couldn’t let it die.
When I emerged from the garage, Cleo under my arm coughing and sputtering, gasping for air, I knew this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Even after spending the night in the hospital for smoke inhalation, I wouldn’t shut up about being a firefighter.
My dad finally put his foot down a year later and told me under no circumstances was a Forrest man going to work a blue-collar job. I didn’t know what that meant other than I wasn’t allowed to talk about being a fireman anymore. Dad said I was going to be a lawyer like the rest of the family. Being a lawyer looked boring dressing in a suit, carrying a briefcase, working behind a desk on the computer, and spending time in stuffy old courthouses. No, that isn’t what I wanted to do—never was, never will be.
I step outside into the sunlight and shield my eyes. Another perfect day in California. Too bad I have to spend it inside waiting for a special license that says I can keep driving the huge rigs I’ve been driving for almost four years already. What a waste of time.

I love summer, the smell of clean babies, lilacs and swimming. I’m a Midwestern mother of five, Mimi of two and owner of three fur babies.

I spend my weekdays writing full time and raising my family.

I write about intelligent women and the stubborn men who love them.
I write about turmoil and conflict. I write about the most complex, convoluted emotion we as humans experience.

I write about love.

I wanted to unravel and devour every inch of her.
She was a blue-eyed, untouched, complication, and the cost of touching her was more than I could afford.

REVIEW⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Mila Cole is a new author to me and I absolutely fell in love with her writing style. This is an older man/younger woman story. There is a 17-year gap between Lighter and Jenson/Slick. But it isn’t such a big deal. She is older than her age when it comes to her maturity, she and Slick have an instant connection so that helps.

Slick is the only support to his niece he also just got this job to be Lighter’s bodyguard. When he meets her he thinks she is a stuck up princess and wants nothing to do with her. But he does want her.

I loved that this story is a slow burn, especially since this does have an age gap. This story turns into a true love between two adults and a sweet little girl.

Mila Cole is from Kentucky where she resides with her husband and two kids. Mila is a full time wife, mother, writer, and laundry washer. She has a big imagination, and writes under more than one name. 😉 If you’d like to keep up with all the bad boys with big hearts that she writes about, you can join her newsletter. –> http://eepurl.com/dy957T
